Perfect Timing
As one of our students in Kenya prepares for his first year of University that takes him six hours from home, four young ladies join our first year of the One Life Tailoring program. The beautiful connection of these two events is that the student who is starting University today is the same boy who lost his mother last year to bone tuberculosis and his mama was the owner of the sewing machine these ladies will learn how to sew on. When we visited Stephen’s mother in January of 2020 she was on several medicines to keep her living but she was incredibly weak and bed-ridden so as we sat in her home I asked if we could buy her sewing machine in hopes that the money would benefit her and the family. Even though Stephen lost his mama last year, he still managed to graduate high school with a B+ which qualified him to move on to Kenyatta University where he will study Agriculture & Bio Systems Engineering. So happy for him!
We will start this tailoring program small and slow so we can learn as we go. The idea at this time is to have these young ladies trained how to sew clothing for Kenyans without paying a dime. They would then sew an item for us to turn around and sell in the US to fund the materials and teacher’s salary. Then after that they can start working for other tailoring shops or try to save up for their own machine. It’s a beautiful thing to witness the amazing things we can accomplish through our everyday work and investments. Thanks for all your help and support along the way.
